ROSACEA & REDNESS
Understanding Facial Redness, Triggers, and Treatment Options
At Dr Noor Aesthetics, we frequently support patients experiencing persistent redness, flushing, and sensitivity—common symptoms of a skin condition known as rosacea. This chronic inflammatory condition can impact confidence and comfort, but with the right care, it’s manageable.
Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that primarily affects the face. It commonly appears as redness across the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead, and may include visible blood vessels, bumps, or pustules. Over time, flare-ups can become more frequent or pronounced without appropriate management.
Rosacea is often underdiagnosed in Black, Brown, and other skin of colour patients. Because traditional signs like redness may be less visible, rosacea can be mistaken for acne, dermatitis, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
In light skin, rosacea usually shows up as redness on the cheeks, nose or forehead and sometimes visible small veins. But in darker skin, the redness is harder to see. People might feel burning, stinging, or flushing, but it may not look obvious. Because of this, it can be confused with other skin problems like acne or eczema.
- Research shows that people with darker skin can actually have worse rosacea symptoms – such as stronger flushing and stinging – than those with lighter skin. But because the redness is harder to see, it often gets missed or diagnosed late.
Carefully Monitor your Skin: Even without visible redness, you frequently experience facial flushing (heat), sensitivity, burning or stinging.
- Monitor your Symptoms: Worsening symptoms after heat, alcohol or skincare products is a sign you may have rosacea.
Look Closely: Small red bumps without blackheads may be a sign of rosacea, not acne.
Use Special Tools: Diagnostic tools like a skin analysis machine can help see changes beneath the surface.
Know the Differences: Other skin conditions (like acne vulgaris, seborrheic dermatitis, and lupus or eczema) can look similar, so it’s important to check carefully.

Identifying and avoiding personal triggers is a key part of managing rosacea.
At Dr Noor Aesthetics, we take a personalised and holistic approach. Rosacea treatment depends on severity, subtype, and skin sensitivity. Options may include:
We use calming, barrier-repairing products to reduce inflammation and improve skin resilience.
- Deep hydration + collagen stimulation
- Improves skin firmness, elasticity & glow
- Hydrating treatments that support the skin barrier and improve tolerance and smoothness.
Topicals like metronidazole, ivermectin, or azelaic acid can be prescribed to control flare-ups.
- Certain low-strength, anti-inflammatory peels may be used under clinical guidance to reduce redness and improve skin tone.
- Non-invasive red and blue light therapy may help reduce inflammation and kill bacteria, depending on subtype.
Rosacea cannot be completely prevented, but flare-ups can be managed or reduced with these strategies:
Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily
Maintain a consistent skincare routine (free of alcohol, fragrance, or exfoliating acids)
Avoid known triggers
Manage stress
Treat skin gently—avoid harsh scrubs or hot water
Early Diagnosis is Key!
If you suspect you may have rosacea or unexplained redness, don’t wait. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to improving skin comfort and avoiding progression.
