Stretch Marks

What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks (also known as striae) are long, narrow lines that appear when the skin stretches or shrinks quickly. This sudden change causes the collagen and elastin in the skin to rupture—when it heals, stretch marks may form.

They’re completely harmless, but they can affect how confident you feel about your skin.

What Causes Them?

Stretch marks can appear due to:

🤰🏽 Pregnancy
📈 Rapid weight gain or loss
📊 Growth spurts during puberty
🏋🏽 Muscle building or intense gym training
🧬 Genetics – some people are more prone than others
🧴 Medical conditions or steroid use

What Do Stretch Marks Look Like?
  • Fresh marks are often red, purple, pink or dark brown (depending on skin tone)

  • Older marks fade to a silvery, white, or pale shade

  • They usually appear on the stomach, thighs, hips, breasts, arms or lower back

Stretch Marks in Skin of Colour
  • Stretch marks in deeper skin tones may be overlooked or misdiagnosed. They can appear darker than your natural skin in early stages and may be prone to hyperpigmentation or uneven fading over time.

At Dr Noor Aesthetics, we understand how these differences present in skin of colour—and tailor all treatment plans with this in mind.
